Barangaroo South is a complex, high-profile urban redevelopment located within a constrained waterfront environment, requiring careful management of groundwater, excavation stability, and temporary construction infrastructure.
The NSW State Government is transforming the Barangaroo precinct into a major community destination incorporating residential, commercial, financial, and retail developments. The broader Barangaroo site is divided into three key areas: Barangaroo Central, Barangaroo South, and Headland Park.
Lendlease was appointed as the lead contractor for the redevelopment of Barangaroo South and engaged Witt Consulting to provide specialist structural and geotechnical engineering services, including the design and assessment of temporary works.
Witt’s Role
Witt Consulting provided comprehensive structural and geotechnical engineering support throughout the project, including:
-
Groundwater monitoring and assessment
-
Development of a finite element model to evaluate the impact of operating piling rigs in close proximity to groundwater reclamation wells
-
Site inspections and limit equilibrium stability assessments for proposed excavation works
-
Inspections, engineering assessments, and certifications for: davit arms, winch footings, shoring systems, sliding gates, batter & excavation stability, water main installations, and stormwater infrastructure.
-
Structural design services, including: shoring system design, winch footing design, temporary support design for dewatering line beams, and design and temporary supports for scaffolding and sliding gates
Our involvement supported the safe and efficient delivery of the Barangaroo South redevelopment, ensuring construction activities were undertaken with due consideration of groundwater control, excavation stability, and temporary works performance within a complex urban and waterfront setting.
