The Art Gallery of NSW is one of the largest and most significant public galleries located in Sydney. It is home to a wide collection of Australian and international art. Within the Old Courts of the Gallery, the screw fixings for multiple hanging rails supporting artworks were exhibiting corrosion and required remediation.
Witt Consulting have been engaged by the Art Gallery of NSW for testing services of over 150 existing and newly fixed hanging rails and dado rails located within Old Courts of the Gallery. The scope involved undertaking a proof load test of each rail in accordance with the design specifications provided by the client. Hanging rails ranged from heights, up six metres. In preparation for the testing, Witt Consulting designed and fabricated custom frames and jigs to conduct proof loads tests in both the vertical and horizontal directions. All fasteners which failed the testing were identified and documented.
