Having worked closely with Georgiou Groups construction team, we were able to deliver efficient and economical temporary works designs that overcome project constraints including steep terrain and narrow construction corridors.
Delivering engineering designs tailored to the needs of the Mona Vale Road Upgrade project.
Witt designed two temporary reinforced soil walls that were in service during this projects upgrade. The first reinforced wall, constructed below the eastbound pavement retains Mona Vale Road during the construction of the new drainage culverts and retaining walls that will support future westbound pavement. The 5-metre-tall retaining wall was constructed using steel mesh facing panels, geogrid soil reinforcement and backfilled with site won crushed sandstone fill.
A second temporary reinforced soil wall was designed to transform the steep site, increase the useable area, and reduce the construction program of the permanent works. The temporary reinforced soil wall has provided working platforms for multiple piling rigs and included space for a haul road for construction plant using the area. At 6.6 metres tall and 150 metres long, the reinforced soil wall was required to be larger and longer than the permanent structure. The reinforced soil wall was constructed at a fraction of the cost of the permanent structure by the contractor without the need to engage specialist contractors.
The temporary reinforced soil walls constructed on the project are a simple and efficient retaining solution that have been effectively utilised to overcome the challenging site constraints.
