Atlassian Building

Witt reviewed existing building support conditions to ensure stability during demolition/ excavation works...

The Atlassian Building project involves the development of Atlassian’s new global headquarters at Central Station. The project has a strong sustainability focus, with Atlassian targeting a 50% reduction in carbon usage during construction compared to conventional developments of a similar scale. Once operational, the building is planned to be powered entirely by renewable energy.

The development interfaces with the heritage-listed former Inwards Parcel Shed and surrounding structures, requiring detailed investigation and careful documentation to support design verification and preservation outcomes.

Witt provided specialist structural and geotechnical engineering services to support the design and verification of the proposed Atlassian Building, particularly in relation to the existing heritage structures.

Scope of Services

Witt’s services included comprehensive structural investigations and documentation, incorporating both intrusive and non-intrusive techniques:

  • Structural investigations of the heritage-listed former Inwards Parcel Shed and surrounding areas

  • Development of as-built drawings to support design verification

  • Determination of material properties for existing structural elements

  • Use of intrusive and non-intrusive investigation methods, including endoscopy, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning, and drilling.

  • Material sampling and laboratory testing of structural elements

  • Documentation of structural details, including material strengths, foundations, column & beam sizes, and connection details.

  • Inspection and documentation of geotechnical conditions in site test pits

Witt Consulting’s investigations provided critical information to enable accurate design verification while respecting the constraints of the heritage-listed structures. The works supported the delivery of a highly sustainable development and ensured informed engineering decisions could be made for the integration of the new headquarters within the existing Central Station precinct.
