Bridges

Witt builds bridges...to get over them

We have assessed the capacity of existing bridge structures subjected to new loading conditions and designed new bridge structures for pedestrians, roads, and rail.

Fernhill Estate Bridges

The Fernhill Estate is being redeveloped by the NSW government to connect and grow the parklands within the Greater Sydney region. It will be opened to the general public within stages as maintenance and repair works are completed.
Witt Consulting provide geotechnical investigation to determine the geological conditions for both the northern and southern bridge. This included DCP testing, and hand augered boreholes excavation works. In addition, a condition assessment was completed to assess the structural elements of both bridges and provide insight regarding their performance. Based on the findings, Witt Consulting was able to develop a recommended remedial scope of works without compromising the heritage value of the two bridges.
A hydrological assessment to determine if the existing sandstone culverts, draining water under the northern and southern bridge, had sufficient discharge capacity for peak flows from their respective drainage catchments.

Both bridges are listed on the Transport for NSW S170 Heritage Register due to early welding techniques used and are considered a significant landmark structure. Witt Consulting’s involvement on the projects included:
Geotechnical inspections, testing, temporary works design and structural inspections including concrete core testing, temporary edge protection design, site validation and certification inspections during bridge demolition and design assessment of temporary edge protection barrier, steel reinforcement design for 8 L-Wall panels and temporary handrail design.
